RON MURRAY (Guitarist) Ron was introduced to
the instrument in his junior high school days, and by his 16th
birthday was teaching and performing regularly in the Providence-Boston
area. He studied classical technique and jazz theory simultaneously,
taking lesson with such notables as Joe Pass, Herb Ellis, Barney
Kessel, Fred Hand, Oscar Ghiglia and Alice Artzt, before attending
a competition/Master class with Alexander Lagoya in Stratford,
Ontario where Murray was awarded a First Prize. He studied and
performed in Spain under the great British master John Williams,
and was a special guest lecturer during Williams' Master class
sessions at the University of Cordoba. Upon his return to the
US, Murray began to explore the business and production side
of music. He managed the careers of several jazz artists, and
co-produced many events, including the Boston Globe Jazz festival.
He produced pianist/composer Deborah Franciose's debut album
"Gypsy Heart", among many other projects, from demos
to radio commercials, and eventually was offered a recording
contract by Providence's North Star Records. He has since released
three albums. "Prelude In Pastel" "Bells, Kings
& Favorite Things" and the "Flight Of The Blue
Dove". Murray has been busy exploring the Flamenco connection
in guitar music, and that influence is reflected in his recordings,
as well as in the live act, called VUELO (vwaylo), which combines
the improvisation of jazz with the fire of Flamenco. Ron is also
Music Supervisor for A to Z Theatrical Productions in Providence,
and, since moving to Mystic, CT in 1993, has performed frequently
at Foxwoods Resort and Casino. |
