Robert W. Cabell
(Music & Lyrics) A 21-year resident of Manhattan's upper West Side,
Robert still makes multiple, annual pilgrimages to his native
Oregon family home. Mr. Cabell's better half, his twin brother
Richard, is the proud papa of his three lovely nieces, Krysten,
Kelsey, and Kelli to whom this show is dedicated. "Z",
celebrates the cultural richness of their lovely mother Janet's
Mendez family heritage. Making his first appearance at the tender
age of 12 as a guest soloist with "Up With People",
Mr. Cabell began performing with regional, summer stock, |
and dinner theaters
at the age of 14, and received his Equity card by the age of
19. He has traveled the country performing such roles as Motel
in "Fiddler", The Minstrel in "Once Upon a Mattress",
Charlie Davenport in "Annie Get Your Gun", as well
as directing and choreographing in Equity Star houses. After
years of the Gypsy life he retired from performing at the tender
age of 23 to concentrate on his writing career. In 1984, he was
chosen as one of the first author/composers to work with the
prestigious Musical Theatre Works. His writing credits include
the critically acclaimed Off-Broadway musical "Pretty Faces,
The Large & Lovely Musical", and "Two Hearts Over
Easy", in addition to several concert presentations of two
other musicals, "Dragon Myth", and "Saccharine"
at Avery Fisher Hall in Lincoln Center. In 1996, he designed,
created, and produced NY Post Gossip Columnist Cindy Adams' AOL
site, as well as supervising the filming of her three weekly
segments for the "E" Entertainment Network Gossip Show.
Mr. Cabell compiled and edited The Joey Adams Encyclopedia of
Laughter for Dove Books, after which he was contracted for a
non-fiction book of his own entitled Final Exit of the Damned.
An avid reader of Sci-Fi and fantasy he is currently 300 pages
into his first science fiction novel Atlantis 2038, which was
partially inspired by his attendance of Hong Kong's 1997 handover.
"Z", is Mr. Cabell's sixth musical and he is hard at
work on two more as well as an animated feature. Additional credits
include writing and producing two children's theatre TV pilots,
"Hideaway Players", a live fractured fairy tale hour
of entertainment, and creating and producing "The Dr. B.D.
Storylove Show" around the amazing talents of children's
theatre extraordinare Barry Duckett for the Portland, Oregon
television audiences. In addition to his librettist and composing
duties Mr. Cabell has worked as a freelance journalist, had his
own column in the Upper West Side Current, written featured articles
for Que Pasa Magazine, and was one of the founding editor/writers
for Shout Magazine, serving as it's Theatre Editor and a member
of it's board of directors for 1997 and 1998. Mr. Cabell is forever
grateful to his Starbucks coffee mate and writing pal, TOR Books
editor Robert Gleason, who quotes Shakespeare over cappuccino
and serves as a constant source of inspiration. |
